We went to Flagstaff yesterday to participate in the Hopi Cultural day at the Museum of Northern Arizona. We watched the Clown Dancers dance, listened to lectures about Hopi migrations and Hopi Permaculture, and looked at a great deal of gorgeous Hopi Jewelery and other artwork. It was an interesting day of learning. Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture is a community based organization that engages, trains and inspires Hopi youth and community to revive Hopi culture and traditions. Permaculture is a multi-level approach to sustainable agriculture and community development that supports local family ethics, Hopi cultural practices and community ways of life. This program has planted orchards, teaches traditional farming practices, natural building practices (using what is available locally) and is really working with the community to return to an abundant agricultural community. You can check out a video of the Project Director, Lilian Hill sharing this program with others at http://beyondthemesas.com/category/hopi-tutskwa-permaculture/. or read an article, by Lilian at http://www.yesmagazine.org/for-teachers/teacher-stories/permaculture-helps-us-remember-who-we-are.
My Wonder Filled Moments were learning about the Hopi as well as enjoying the cool weather and beautiful rain in Flagstaff, Arizona.
In Gratitude,
Linda G
