Mythic Journeys

I watched a documentary titled Mythic Journeys and I highly recommend it.  In this documentary the presenters talk about the role myths play in our lives.  How through history the stories we tell are metaphors for life issues.  They gave examples and shared many stories and understanding of how we each have a story that is unique to us alone.  How the trials and tribulations that we endure are part of the story and that these stories and their metaphors created myths that helped others understand the trials of life.  They talked about the importance of ritual and how the loss of ritual is affecting the world at large.  One man shared that his Grandmother had told him, “The world is perfect.  There is just a lot of folks having a bad conversation.”   One of them mentioned that “Myths help us to negotiate transitions”   There was a time in the movie where they were in a panel discussion and one of the audience members asked, “If you could tell anything to our children, what would you tell them?”  One of the panel members, a woman from Africa, said this; “I would tell them they are already full of knowing coming to share, that they are not empty baskets waiting to be filled up with our junk!”  One person said, “We need a new story.”  On that I must agree.  I have felt for many years that we all have a story to tell, because we all have life experience that is different from each other.  What is your story?  Does it need upgrading?  My Wonder Filled Moment was thinking about my own story, and enjoying the ride I’m on and excited about the possibilities ahead of me.

In Gratitude,
