On Sunday we were invited
to take part in an Apache Coming of Age Ceremony. Robin, the young lady, had recently turned
13. Upon our arrival we visited with
family. When it was time for the
ceremony the Shamanic Practitioner gave us instructions. We stood in a circle drawn with corn meal. In the circle on a blanket were medicine tools
(burning sage, a feather fan and a few other things.) We were instructed to hold hands and to look
at the ground, we could not look at Robin until the end of the ceremony. It was time for us to remember her as a little
girl as she was now becoming a woman. Near the end of the ceremony 4 women of
importance in Robin’s life, entered the circle with her, one at each of the
directions of the Medicine Wheel. Each
woman gave Robin words of wisdom about being a woman. After Robin was presented to us as a woman we
danced in a circle until it became a spiral.
(this is just a brief synopsis of the ceremony)
It was a beautiful
ceremony and we were honored to be a part of it. My Wonder Filled Moment was being witness to
a girl becoming a woman. Thank you,
Robin and family for inviting us to be a part of this.
In Gratitude,
Linda G
How beautiful - made me cry.
